I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel with my husband to Chicago on the weekend of 11/8/08. He goes there every other year for a tradeshow for business. I've wanted to visit Chicago again and for many years was not able to go with him. This year it worked out, so I was happily arranging my trip when I realized the Supernatural Convention in Chicago was in November. When I checked the dates, I found it to be the weekend after our visit. I tried to make David's trip fit a long weekend the other way so I could stay, but alas... no go.
We had a marvelous trip. I saw Millennium Park which wasn't there the last time I visited. That is so cool. We walked down to see Buckingham Fountain, but the whole park was fenced off for some kind of rennovations of some kind. The weather was cold and a little windy, but it wasn't wet on that day and the sun was out so it was a pleasant day. I stopped at Fanny May and purchased my favorite Mint Meltaway Chocolates - awesome!!! We ate at Gino's for fabulous pizza on Saturday night, had a yummy steak at Shula's Steakhouse on Sunday and then enjoyed a quiet dinner at The Fireplace Inn for barbeque, sitting by the fireplace and watching football on the bar screen. It was very comfortable and a great meal.
On Sunday I went to lunch at a little pub I found by walking away from out hotel and enjoyed fish & chips with a pub/restaurant full of Bears fans watching the noon game. I just stumbled into a noon party. Fun! I felt like I'd walked into Cheers! There were snow flurry's in the air, but not enough to stick to anything in the city. I walked up Michigan Avenue and shopped at the Disney store for my nephew's birthday, then took a cab to Lincoln Park to the new Veria Wellness Center for a massage! Lovely, of course.
Monday, I went to the Art Institute and spent 5 hours walking, looking and enjoying. After a late lunch at McDonald's (an old favorite), I returned to the hotel for a shower and primping to prepare for a Vendor Reception that we were attending when David returned from the show. I was all ready for a night out when David got home with a migraine. He went to bed, I turned out all the lights and sat on the couch with his laptop & a glass of wine, and watched Supernatural episodes from my DVDs that I had taken on the trip with me - you never know when you'll need them :). When he'd slept for an hour or so, he woke up feeling better and needed to eat. That's when I found the BBQ place and then the Consierge recommended it as well, we were off! It really was good.
Tuesday, we picked up souvenirs for the girls and went to brunch at the West Egg, a little diner that serves breakfast & lunch until 3pm each day. That was different and fun, too. Then it was off to the airport for our return home - then dinner with the girls at Chili's. It was a fun trip and I'm so glad I could go. Since then I've spent the last 3 days (Sunday-Tuesday this week) reading every recap and viewing every video and picture from the convention - wishing I could have been there. I'm going to do everything I can to go to another con so I can see Jensen and Jared together. That's my mission in life! Happy Day to you, until next time.
I've had this log-in for a year and never knew what to do or how to do it. I still don't but I'm going to fumble through. I met some great Supernatural fans at the Salute to SPN in Dallas last week and this prompted me to see what I could do to stay in touch with them.
The con was my first foray into the Supernatural fandom other than reading on-line and sometimes posting a reply in the CW Lounge or on Buddy TV. I expected the convention to be more crowded and full of crazy people. It wasn't nearly as crowded as I expected and learned that other locations were more busy. There was no shortage of interesting people there and I'm glad I got to meet the few that I did. You guys are awesome!
My two sisters and I are major SPN fans and we attended together. I had so much fun. I am a Dean girl and my youngest sister is an "equal opporunity luster". Our middle sis is a major Sam girl. So we were all going to get what we wanted - that is until Jensen canceled his appearance. That was a very sad day for me. But, alas, we saw the ever-hunky Jared and he was so nice and considerate of everyone. He ran out of time to sign autographs (the standard way - at a table as we filed by) so he walked the line all the way around this huge convention room so he could ensure that everyone who wanted one, got his autograph. He really went beyond the call of duty. Although we would have been pissed had he not, it was nice that he cared enough to do it. My sis who attends soap opera events says that when their time is up, they leave, regardless of the line waiting for them.
Ok, - I've talked enough for my first time. As my name says - I love the brothers! Next time I will expand on that one. Have a great day!
